would like to share one more milestone being achieved by SALL
Kampala.
We started our journey to implement ISO 22000 certification
in Jan 2008 and today we went through final audit of our systems
by Nemko of Norway, and I am pleased to share that the audit
went well without any NC and we got the ISO 22000 : 2005 certification
in September.
As you may be aware that in the year 2007 we received ISO
9001:2000 QMS certification, followed by UNBS ( Uganda National
Bureau of Standards ) product quality mark and now ISO 22000
certification ( which also encompasses principles and plans
of HACCP-Hazard Analysis And Critical Control Points ) , the
objective of which is to prevent food borne hazards in food
at the point of consumption by providing adequate controls
throughout the food chain ie equipment,packing materials,cleaning
materials,additives,ingradients etc.
This would definitely enhance our business reputation and
corporate image,and help us to access new markets as well
more share from existing customers like you. You may have
come across.recent BBC news of melamine contamination in milk
powder in China whereby as of date 432 children have fallen
sick due kidney ailments ( one death reported) dairy manufacturer
is part owned by Fontera of Newzea Land and nearly 700 tons
of powder is being called back from market.
Further this certification would also send a message to show
people and customers that we care for them and have a commitment
to their well being. ISO 22000 was launched in the world in
2005 and there are not many companies in the world having
this certification.
Our next journey would be ISO 14000 ( environment management
systems ) and ISO 18000 for occupational hazards and safety
management systems.
